WW2 German 32 pistol..Leonhardt?

Posts: 2 Dec 16 03 10:07 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Tags : None Hello all, I need info on a pistol sitting in front of me.It is a 32 caliber semi-auto pistol captured off of a German soldier during ww2 (with a dated authorization certificate to retain the gun) it is refered on the certificate as : 1 pistol Cal. 32 leonhardt markings on left side are : Selbslade-Pistole "Leonhardt" both grips has raised letters ST.W right side markings: Gering & Co. Arnstadt Any info or directions to a good ID book would be appreciated.

Posts: 498 Dec 16 03 10:54 PM MODERATOR Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	Interesting little pistol. There were several incarnations of the same pistol and is most commonly known as the "Beholla". Stendawerke was the actual designer of the pistol and the principal manufacturers were, Becker & Hollander, Suhl ; Waffenwerke August Menz, Suhl ; Stendawerke Waffenfabrik GmbH, Suhl and H. M. Gering & Cie, Arnstadt. Some of these makes were officially taken into service during WWI as a substitute standard. The Becker and Hollander's are the most readily found. A few could had soldiered on into the Weimar Era and even the Nazi Era, although actual production ceased after WWI. Check your's closely for WWI acceptance markings, it is my understanding that only the Becker & Hollander and Menta are recorded in Army records. Hogg and Weeks, in "Pistols of the World" state that Gering may have only assembled parts left over from WWI. If you wish to pursue the study of your's futher, may I suggest the following references. This pistol was given to me by a coworker whose uncle served in ww2.....other than that who knows. I'm sorry if you are upset over that.

The Holster is marked "GSP" - I've included a picture. Anybody want to hear the "Vet bring back" story (from the dealer of course) or can we all figure it out from the picture? Bob T.
