Illinois HB 148 stands a very good chance of passing the State Legislature. And, last week, a representative from the Chicago Police Department Sergeants Union testified in support of the bill. We may get enough votes to over ride the Governors promised veto after all. The bill is currently on it's 2nd reading. One more and it gets voted on. Posts: 1081 Mar 26 11 9:44 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	The bill has made it through the 2nd reading and is currently slated to be scheduled for 3rd reading. After that, it gets voted on. Word is that it is going to pass, lot of democrats have jumped on board supporting the bill, even Chicago democrats. Thor, if this passes and the Gov. signs it or the legislature over-rides a Veto, it is slated to take effect immediately on passage. So, you might want to keep an eye on it, as it will recognize all other States CCW permits, and carries pre-emption. "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. This could very well mean he has backed off his promise to veto it. Which is most likely, since IL. law requires it to pass with a 3/5 majority because it contains pre-emption. Has had 1 amendment, to restrict carry in public libraries unless "person in charge" o.k.'s carrying. That has been immediately referred to committee and will likely come back this week. We could be getting a vote on this by mid April if we are lucky. Also note, this is a "Shall Issue" bill. "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. And, Quinn has re-stated that he will give the bill Ample Attention if it reaches his desk. "Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. Sully my Chitown trip has been cancelled, so that's not an issue but do hope this bill passes. I really prefer to carry when travelling cross country, but plumb scared of Illinois. The bill passed the House on a vote of 65-32 wit one vote as present (makes one wonder if BO isn't back in Illinois). The bill needed 71 votes to pass because it contained pre-emption. And, the NRA will only support a bill in Illinois if it contains pre-emption. Looks like us downstaters simply had the bone dangled in front of us rather than being thrown the bone. Thor, pull over before you cross the border, case the weapoon and unload it. Once you cross into KY, you can resume carrying. As for me, my days as an Illinoisan are likely numbered. With the purchase of the home in S.W. Mo., the milder climate there, and increased costs for me to do business in Illinois, I will likely be a Mo. resident before much longer. Posts: 1081 May 5 11 5:48 PM Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I should note that the bill is not completely dead. It has been remanded to committee rather than being outrightly defeated. And, it has been postponed for consideration. Speculation is that the supporters are still trying to sway some "no" votes in order to get it passed and will bring it to the floor for a vote when they do so. My speculation is that this is wishful thinking. Write a bill with no pre-emption and it will pass and the Gov. will sign it because it won't give Chicago residents the right to conceal carry. When they learn to approach the issue in the same manner that progressives have taken over, piecemeal, then we can put not just Illinois, but the whole country back on the right track. Although i have a CCW permit not having a card in my wallet is a poor excuse to allow someone to take your life. The world's most boring lifestyle is on my side, a church picnic with ice tea for excitement avoids many of the gun fights i see in the news daily. the recent famous case in NYC resulted in a NFL multi millionaire carrying a glock, round chambered into a nightclub, not wearing proper pants with a belt, any type of holster. still a shame he got prison time for shooting his own dumb self.
