A local gun shop has a 1911 Swiss rifle with a crescent moon symbol and the mark: WF26.
I wonder what these marks mean. What is the caliber? The gun shop folks think is 6.5 Jap. Thanks Riverok Oklahoma |

That crescent moon is probably what should be a P-stamp, it stands for that the rifle has become private property. The WF26 means arsenal refurbished by Waffenfabrik Bern in 1926. For the correct ammo you need to be sure of what it is, some of these rifles have also been modified into other calibers, a serial number and the maximum rear sight setting (1500 or 2000 meters ? ) would help. As Guisan stated it hard to say what caliber it is. From my view your description is a bit confusing, you say it's a 1911, the gun shop throws out 6.5 Jap and when I hear cresant moon I think Turk mauser so I find it real hard to claim what it is. If it is in fact an unaltered Swiss 1911 then the caliber should be Swiss 7.5x55 (GP11). If it is altered then who knows. Is it in full military configuration or has it been cut down?
