The MGWLHA is a brand new Great War reenacting community that was founded by some of the people, one bieng myself, who went to the National WWI museum in KC
back in March of this year for an event. We came up with the idea of a Central US based reenacting community as there is already one on the East Coast, the GWA
and one on the West Coast, the GWHS. We felt that having one that was based in the Center part of the US could benifit both of the other organizations by
recruiting members from this part of the US where they could go to either coast for the big reenactments. We also wanted to host our own reenactments as well
and one place we have is in Parsons, KS. The reenactment in KS is scheduled for April 17-18, 2010 and will depict late war (Spring 1918) action on the fringes
of German lines. This is will be a mobile action. There will be no trenches, but there will be opportunities to dig funk holes and recreate tactical maneuvers
which will be held on primitive private land in southeast Kansas north of Parsons where the rolling landscape is very similar to that of northern France. This
event will not be open to the general public at all due to liability issues.

Thanks for your detailed reply. This sound great! This is something that should have been started years ago. Are the individuals involved or anyone in these
groups going to post updates on the trenchline on progress, news, etc.?

I'm curious, not nit-picking...are they waiting for some sort of "tipping point" of interest to take hold? One of those forums has a little more
than one hundred members and the other two hundred, the "Trenchline" over six hundred.

This new trench will be a GO, they will be getting together on October 24 to start the ground breaking of it.
The "Trenchline" http://s12.zetaboards.com/The_Trench_Line/index/ is the GWA forum for talking WWI reenacting stuff and is mostly devoted to the events in PA where the GWA is based. The GWA has no control over this new trench system that will be in Texas. The "GWHS Forum" http://greatwarforum.proboards.com/index.cgi? is the GWHS forum for talking WWI reenacting stuff and is devoted to events in CA where the GWHS is based and they also do not have no control over this new trench system. This new trench system will be independent of these two main groups, they are in discussion of being affiliated with the MGWLHA. The greatwar-reenactor is a general list on yahoo for all WWI reenactors in the US and around the world, this one has members from the GWA, GWHS and MGWLHA. The centralusgreatwar is for members who live in the center part of the US, this will be where the main people who will support this new trench system will come from. They are right now trying to get an estimate of the numbers of people and units that will support this. This where the majority of the talks on this new trench have been taking place on, if you are interested in participating at this new trench, I highly recommend that you join up there to get into the discussions on it. This is a work in progress, whenever you start a new trench system it is always a rough start to get things going, I have a feeling after the 24th of October they will have a good feeling of what is going to really go down. There are two main WWI reenactments groups based in the U.S.A. with one on the East Coast and one on the West Coast. The one on the East Coast is the called the GWA (Great War Association) which is based in PA. The one on the West Coast is called the GWHS (Great War Historical Society) which is based in Southern CA. Both of the groups strive to keep alive the history of the Great War and honor those who fought it's battles, through battle reenactments and educational events. Both of these groups have battle reenactments that take place within systems of opposing trenches complete with a crater-pocked No-Man's Land. There are belts of barbed wire, used to protect the sandbagged front line trenches, and the opposing positions are punctuated by bunkers with functioning machine-guns. Behind the main lines are supporting and communication trenches, connected to underground dugouts, where officers plan operations and the common soldiers eat and rest. The basic theme for these reenactments is the Western Front during the period of late 1917 and 1918 as many of the members are in units that belong to the AEF (American Expeditionary Forces) but there are also units that represent other nations such as Great Britian, Canadian, Australian, French, Russian Legion, Italian, German and Austro-Hungarian. If you are interested in participating in this time period please visit these two groups websites for more information GWA ... http://www.great-war-assoc.org/ GWHS ... http://greatwarhistoricalsociety.com/ There is also a new WWI reenacting group bieng created called the MGWLHA (Midwest Great War Living History Association) which will be based in Kansas City, MO that will be closely coordination with the National World War One Museum located there. As this group is now trying to be formed and is in the process of getting off the ground by myself and others, we are working on trying to update the website for this group.
