The police are more and more violating people's rights in a Gestapo manner. First statement by the officer should be, "Sir, the reason I stopped
you...", then ask for DL, registration and insurance papers.
A few days ago, somebody posted a link to a blog of a class by a defense lawyer. It advocated using your fifth amendment right to silence. All you are required is to give the above info. Any information you offer, just opens up the officer's chance to pursue other matters. Best to just keep your mouth shut. "Why am I being stopped, officer?" "Would you like to see my DL?" That's enough. I have determined this. If stopped, and I get out of the car, I will lock the door as I do. If I remain in the car, the doors will be locked, window rolled down. If the officer asked me to get out, I will do so, but lock the car as I do. NOW THEN. He can not forceably enter the car and needs a search warrant to do so. In Missouri, and many other states, you can have CCW placed on your DL... or you can get a separate ID for CCW. I chose the latter. No sense in advertising and giving the officer more than necessary. I used to be polite and nice. Not anymore. We give away far too much information and the officer often takes advantage of that. I do believe we have a serious problem in our schools, both lower and higher education. A student should have a working understanding of the constitution by the time he graduates. A college student should know even more, enough to protect his rights. And a lawyer, which many apparently don't, should know it frontward, backward and sideway, and be defenders of the people's rights.

I don't know if they teach basic government any more or not. If they do, it is most likely a politically correct viewpoint. George Washington in 1796 said
"A primary object...should be the education of our youth in the science of government"

I have been stopped twice in my life and both time the cops were professional and courtesy. One time for driving with an expired inspection and once for
driving with my parking lights on instead of the headlights.
The time with the expired sticker, I really though that the inspection center put on the wrong date on the sticker and the officer asked if he could look at the the sticker inside my truck. The second time with the parking lights on, the officer realized that I made an honest mistake, and said he had to run my ID through the computer because it was SOP on all stops. I have met some cocky cops in my time but by and large they are professional and I am glad they are around. |

Velvet, I don't believe any public school still teaches basic government. What they do teach is a simple memorization of the Constitution, but not the
meaning of each and every Article. And, when you go on to college, you really need to "specialize" in the study of the government in order to
understand how it should work and the dichotomy of how it really works. Again, I restate that what is needed is for the common man to usurp the powers that
currently exist in our local, State, and Federal governments. Then, and only then, will we be protected under the Constitution. So, now for the "say what
you mean and mean what you say" portion of my sermon. Enfield should appreciate this as I have insisted that "we the people" are ultimately to
blame if we sit idly by during all controversies only to become involved in those we deem important. It is very evident to the nation as a whole that Illinois
has an "ethics" problem in its political structure. And, from inside the State, it does not look much improved even after impeaching a Governor.
Also, the State is in a fiscal dilemma in that it is $9 Billion short of balancing the budget, and appears that the legislature will borrow that money to get
by for another year (elections coming up in 2010 and no one wants to be responsible and solve the problem.) So, we come to this point. I assure you, I have
never been in politics before with the exception of running for a school board position (non-partisan). So now I am doing what I have been saying. Over the
course of the last few days I have been putting together a loose "grassroots" organization and have made an un-official announcement that I will be
an Independent Candidate for the office of Governor of the State of Illinois. One small step for me, one giant step for the common man. Hopefully, there are
others here in Illinois and some of you in your own States that will take similar steps. After what do you have to lose ? Nothing other than an election. What
do you have to gain ? Keeping all candidates focused on the issues at hand. So, I guess this is it. I probably won't get to this forum much after this week
for about the next year, but I am practicing what I preach.

Well sully, the best to you, and I hope you at least shake up the establishment. I have run for public office twice, some yaers ago. Once for school board, and
once for County Commissioner. At the time, the three Commissioners had been in office for too long, as nobody else would run. That particular year there was an
uprising, and I think 8 different candidates ran for the 3 positions. We unseated two of the incumbents.
Nothing much changed though. At that low level, the hands are tied most of the time by State and Fed regulations that cannot be violated if you want the county to survive. Two of my friends now hold those offices, and it is getting worse every year. The power under the constitution will always be in the people. It is intrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and, whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can and undoubtedly will be recalled. YUGO Sully. Set your sights high. At first I thought, "He doesn't stand a snowball chance", then reminded myself that a professional wrestler was
elected governor and a comedian was just confirmed for US Senate. So why not a landscape entrepenuer? You've got as much chance as they did if you can get
some backing and organization.
Independent? I had been thinking about posting a thread asking you which third line party would be best. I'm wondering if the Constitution Party has much credibility, enough to become a viable force.

Thor, the Constitution Party has been indirectly getting too much of a bashing from the left for the sheep to grasp that their political ideals are the closest
to what the founding fathers envisioned. As for the "snowball chance", I know what you are saying. I've got a lot of people saying that, but
I've also got a lot of votes lined up and am working through contacts into the Chicago area. Hope to get a foothold there, even as much as I dislike what
Chicago politicians do to the rest of the State, it appears that even Chicago residents are fed up with Illinois politics as usual. So, if I can show that I am
not a professional politician, I may just be able to melt that snowball. If nothing else, at least I can get people to thinking about what is going on here.
After all, what do I have to lose ? Nothing more than an election for an office that I don't hold.
