Would you buy a Government Motors vehicle? |

As we were winding our way through Mississippi on vacation we were listening to a talk show, obviously Southern Style, and subject was the Obama takeover of GM
and Chrysler, and giving UAW such a large chunk of ownership. One caller commented that Honda/Nissan/Toyota have profitable plants in USA, non union and doing
well. So now we can say a Honda/Nissan/Toyota is Built in America, BY Americans.
What will happen to the loyalty of so many GM fans? Would you buy a Government Motors vehicle? (Result) |

Looks like I'm the first to vote. My vote is a qualified yes, if GM continues to make a full sized Silverado extended cab. (Actually, I'm old enough
to accept the fact that my current 2002 P/U may be the last I'll buy in my lifetime since my Chevys seem to operate satisfactorily for an average of 20
years.

I'm already driving a Ford and the truck before the current one was a Ford.

I'm a Dodge Boy since rebellion. (Folks were Ford Trucks and Buick Cars). I've done work for all the Automakers and wouldn't buy a GM then or now.
Too early to tell what will have to Daimler Chrysler Fiat. I think I saw something about a Government By-Back program for older vehicles that weren't good on gas. If this is so, I could see it being contingent upon buying a GM product. I think my option would be. (e) Cheap and Used |

But watch the price of used vehicles go up. I don't think most people want one of the new Obamabiles. When all else fails, BLAME BUSH! |

I have 2 fords, a Honda, and a Nissan. I bought the Nissan because of consumer ratings, and I liked it over everything else except the Toyota, but a few
features on Nissan made me go with them. I find it stupid to bail out a company, who if they had a better product, and had CEO's who where not trying to
get everything for nothing would have been just fine. Besides with as many Toyota, Nissan and Honda plants here in the US, it is not like we are going to miss
GM.

U.A.W. ~ I lived in Flint Michigan before moving to Wisconsin. I worked in a position where I went into the plants (Ford, GM and Chrysler) on almost a daily
basis.
There was definitely a need for the Union at a certain period of time, but that has long passed. I saw an Engineer sit around waiting for 2 weeks, unable to work in his office while waiting for union electricians unplug his computer from the wall. Then other union employees had to move it to his new office location. Then another wait for the electricians to plug the power in. 1 month to move a computer system 100 yards withing the same building. That is a small example of why a truck costs $50K. |

From now on cars will be used BMW's that I will wrench on as much as possible. High quality and reasonable parts available for the home mechanic.
With 7 in the family, I need a large vehicle. I have a 99 Suburban 2x4 right now and will keep it going ALAP. I'd really like another Suburban but really don't like that it's a government thing now. I don't want to go 15 passenger van. I may end up looking at a Ford Excursion 4x4 in the future. Mileage is worse though.

My second car is a 1993 Jeep Cherokee with ~235,000 miles on it. Only work done has been normal maintainence, and replacing the alternator at about 210,000. No
rust at all on the body. I love the Cherokees from mid '80s to mid '90s.

The 99 GMC sierra truck is the first new vehicle that I have bought since 1974. Wife is driving her mother's 04 ford so odds are I just might not live long
enough to buy another new truck. The 99 only has 105k miles on it and most of that is driving to Wyoming and back.

i'll continue to buy used gm & used land rovers. the other stuff i have no use for. i've owned several fords but only because they were practicaly
free, there's nothing wrong with them mechanically but i've never warmed up to any of their bodystyles.
Honda/Nissan/Toyota are assembled in america, if the japanese opened their market to american cars i might consider owning a used one but i still wouldn't buy a new one

My sierra was made about 60 miles west of me at Ft Wayne, IN and it only took about 3months to put it together. They had problems with the plastic for the
sportside bed.

The real ownership of all these firms is so convoluted you don't really know who owns what. With all the dirt we are discovering these days maybe BO owns a
piece of all the 'foreign' makers that build here. If he doesn't, he will.

Thor, change the options. My answer is, no thanks, never driven anything but Fords and ole Henry would be proud that his company didn't take any taxpayer
bailout money. So, I'll stick to my Ford's
