So, I bought it for 50 bucks, and now am planning to do an honorable job of re-finishing, and re-functioning, and make it worthy for deer hunting here in Texas.
I will test fire it first, soon as I find some ammo for it. I normally lash the rifle to a spare tire on the ground, and use a lanyard string to fire it.
Here are the photos of this mess. This is my first Arisaka, and know little of one.
It sure looks like a copy of a Mauser 98. I re-did a Mauser (# last fall and you all sure helped me with it.
I plan to do the same here with this one.
The stock is a FAJEN, and looks like very good wood and tight in-letting. However the cheek pad is for a left handed shooter and must be sanded off for me in order to presently get a sight picture.
No recoil pad ,hmmmmm.
The bore is chromed, looks bright. The bolt-face is chromed also, looks fine and firing pin tip looks fine. The safety works, and the trigger dry fires fine.
I will try to use the iron sights, but if I can't see them, then I will mount a scope. This decision will be made after the stock work,so I can look down the sights, which is presently imopssible due to the stock being for a "lefty".
So, please comment as your expertise is the only way I can make something out of this.
