I'd have to say those were soe aweful long rifles strapped to their backs, especially the 2nd guy from the left. Love the B-17 bomber, so many good things
fro that period of time.

Wonder if they made enough speed to get it back into the air...

I think the rifle appears to be longer because he is shorter.

These men are no first line troops like the ones that were used for the border guard batallions, the long rifles and the mixed clothing indicate that they were
older men that probably belong to the reserves or territorial troops.
Air base guarding (this pic was taken at Dübendorf base) was considered a less dangerous job. Guisan.

That rifle looks to be nearly as long as he is tall, taking into account he is leaning forward.
Good point Guisan. Would they also use Kadets for this task?

I wonder if the plane had any battle damage?

It would have had battle damage or mechanical damage for it to have landed in Switzerland. Once aircraft and aircrew landed in Switzerland they weren't
allowed to leave until the war was over in order for Switzerland to maintain their neutrality. From what I've read it was quite a good time for the soldier
to the point they had travel brochures. Let see fight a war or see Switzerland, hmmm.

Well it was not only one but way more that choose for the Swiss safe harbour....
It became a problem for the Swiss airforce as all these big planes took a lot of place at Dübendorf airbase and this lead to the following...

Neat pictures. It looks like the picture at the top is of a B-17 while the others are possibly B-24's.

I'm with Guisan. Are they trying to take off or just taxi that thing?
Or maybe they all just got arrested? Jim NRA Life Member Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes...
