Well then, how about the 1871 Korean War? On June 1st 1871 cannon from Korean forts fired on a U.S. fleet. The fleet, escorts for a delegation investigating depredations against American merchant ships was made up of five ships the U.S.S. Alaska, Colorado, Palos, Monocacy and Benicia.
(The info on the Navy's Naval History Center is more detailed than Wikipedia <no surprise there>). 651 Sailors and Marines were put ashore on June 10th and they promptly took and destroyed Fort Choji and Fort Deokjin. 481 peices of artillery were spiked. In battle soon after with Korean forces a victory was won that cost U.S. forces 3 killed. 350 Koreans were killed including a general and 20 captured. 9 Sailors and 6 Marines were awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor. More of a punative raid than a war the Hermit Kingdom would not again see U.S. forces until the 1950s. Interestingly enough one of Korean flags captured was returned by the U.S. just last year.
The uniforms and equipment of the Marines was that used in the American Civil War including .58 Springfields and the Navy with Remington Rolling Block Carbines (perhaps .50-70s?) were slightly more modernized. The Koreans were armed with matchlocks and spears for the most part.
