My first K98 Mauser |
Lead | |
|
I just received a real nice K98 RC Mauser from Herr Mario. Dated script CE 42. Out of the hundreds of guns I owned this is the first military issued K98. Has
all the stamps, no 'X'. EP'd where usual etc. One question, is there a trick in getting out the cleaning rod? I can't just pull it out, and
didn't want to force anything.

Glad you got it to work. No worries on asking as I've learned the hard way by "forcing" things that shouldn't have been forced. Now, please share some pics!!! |

I hear there are 2 basic types of stocks (maybe more) flat buttplate/curved butplate. Is this proper for a '42?

I couldn't get the link to work. In some ways it was actually easier on ezboard! CE 42 would be laminated stock with a cupped buttplate. Here are a couple of photos of a CE41 with the same type of furniture: ![]()

I have one too | ||

I have one just like it. The very next year they went to the block letters for the ce. Just something I've noticed but have no reason. Has the serial
number located on the knuckle of the bolt been ground off? Most RC's yes but I have a few that were not. Again, I have no reason. Just curious.

There is still a 4 digit number on the top root of the handle, and the EP'd '29' on the bolt body. It is not 'X'ed, still has the capture
screws, but parts are mixed. I dream it was some poor young soldier fighting on the Eastern Front, who surrendered, and never made it back to the Mother Land.

Even though the bolt doesn't exactly match I have found that it is still a little desirable to me to have those numbers intact. I have some with and some
without. Having one with is a little more rare. I would be curious to know why that specific number was ground off.
