And has anyone try to add wood the butt end and grip on these old stocks.Im wanting to lengthen stock and grip area .If so would you please share how you done it and how it looked.I would like to have raised cheek piece too. I would then fill the hole with a clear epoxy embedding a case head from a cartridge on each side of the stock for the caliber used on that gun. I may try this on a tweede I am building if I decide to stay with the original Turk stock. Ray

They used longer screws for the buttpad to hold it together. It was too long for me so I removed it. Rad NRA Benefactor Member AMA Life Member

As for the cheek rest, I really like the look of the leather lace on cheek rests. I think they add a nice appearance as well as the added height for a scope. I have one of these on my H&R Buffalo Classic 45-70. I got it from Cabela's but there are others that I see on-line for sale as well. Ray

Posts: 1525 (06/17/09 5:39 PM) MODERATOR Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	arky, here is a pic of the pistol grip that was added on one of my sporterized greek 1903/14 mannlicher schoenauer's . from the side the checkering hides most of the splice. i would use the same type of wood to add to the stock. i save any scap wood & broken stocks to use for repairs. the trick is to find a piece thats the same color & grain pattern then dovetail it in very tight. once the epoxy has dried & the two peices have been sanded its not very noticable. my sedgley has a piece spliced in on the left side from a sidemount that you have to look very closely to see. you can see it very good in the picture but i guess its from the flash because when you look at the stock from the side you have to know its there to see it. proud member of the Hillbilly Gunsmithing Guild

Jim this new fangled cameras see better than we do.Turkey season before last I was taken pics of a bear with my canon 20 got home to look at the pics and %%% smart a-s thing had taken pics of 2 bears. lol Big black one & a smaller brown one . So I put a lite coat of stain on it to get a ideal how it would look. But the grain didnt show up good.Is there any tricks to getting it to pop.Would plan oil finish be better. I prefer a clear finish of some kind. There is also a product ( can't remember what it's called now ) that you can put on during the sanding process to make the grain'pop' . Long live the Swedish Mauser!!

Aquafortis Reagent may aslo help. its mainly used on curly maple muzzel loader stocks. proud member of the Hillbilly Gunsmithing Guild
