I removed the screw and pushed down on the spring loaded pin but cannot get anything to move even a fraction of an inch. Is there something that I am missing??

Ok, it's an Interarms 33/50 that I picked up.

No , that is the proper way to remove the bayonet lug . A few things to look for at first . You really need 4 hands & a rifle vice to hold it . There can
be accumulated dirt or grease under the spring . You really have to hold down hard on the spring & tap lightly on the center lug with a piece of wood . The
second person needs to hold everything steady . Before doing that , look to see if it has a welded on barrel extension ? If so , look at the corner where the
nosecap meets the barrel . If there is a slight radius in the corner , the nosecap cannot pass by it . Sometimes the turning tool that removed the weld broke
down on the corner & left a ridge there . Another problem is the weld being turned off center to the barrel . In other words , one side will be thicker
& prevent the nosecap from sliding over it . In either case , leave it alone & never remove the bayonet lug , or put masking tape all around the nose
cap & use a small triangular file & remove the excess metal until the nosecap can be removed . This will take a while , so be patient . A real pain ,
but that is what needs to be done . You may want to cold blue the extension when finished .
Assuming you get it apart , remove both band springs & scrape away all grease & dirt in the band cutout , so the springs will depress easily . That will make it easy to take apart next time . |

Thank you very much for the reply.
With rifling to the end, I don't think there is an extension to worry about. As soon as I can get a couple more hands, I will try it again.

Yes Sir, I did.
I held the spring down and the rifle steady while my son tapped on the back of the bayonet lug. Now to clean out under the spring to make it a little easier. I am on vacation next week and hope to try it out. Nice thing is that I can probably sell the stock, handguard and bayonet lug for more than I paid for the rifle. After my daughter gets back from KY with my camera, I will try to post a few pictures.
