Thanks Alley, for the road down memory lane. I remember all of them and remember most of them when they hit the showroom floor. In my town, as soon as you are
big enough to ride a bike, you roam the streets and check out the dealerships in the late fall/early winter.
I had redneck trucks in high school but my first real car was a 1955 98 Olds Holiday, two door hardtop. A lady getter for sure. When all else fails, BLAME BUSH! |

Thor, first car was an Oldsmobile Super 88, 4 door sedan. I took it to the local drag strip 3 weeks in a row and brought home 3 trophes.
Then totaled it out street racing!!

Pro, you dun good if you won a drag race with an Olds. I remember racing a 57 Chevy on a back road. He came off the line well ahead of me, and crossed the 1/4
mile mark ahead of me, but we both kept going and I smoked him after that. My Olds didn't start to breath good until 80 and really kicked in past 100. Curb
weight was something like 4600 lb compared to the Chevy in the low 3000's.

Big old box of a 4 door would run. It surprised quite a few people.

I have owned a few of them. My first car was a 1949 mercury convertible, now that was a lady catcher.

My first car was a '69 green 4 door 6 cylinder Chevy Nova. It definately wasn't a chick magnet. In fact, looking back, I have no idea why a girl ever
went out with me twice.
Must be my animal magnetism, good looks and charm. The cars I was interested in were the late '60s- early '70s muscle cars. Camaros, GTOs, Barracudas, Firebirds, Roadrunners, Chargers, etc. The one I wanted most was a '73 Corvette Stingray, burnt orange with T-tops. I saw one in '73 when I was 15 at a drive-in movie. I don't believe the fact that it had a blond in it had anything to do with me wanting it- but I might be wrong. Thor, a side note on the Olds - I got it in Lubbock and it was supposed to have been used by the dealership to chauffer Liberace around when he came to town for a concert in 1967. It was the first car I owned with cruise control and 8-track tape deck. White with balck top and interior - what a "boat".

My first and second car do not make the list.
My first car was a '54 Morris Minor 1000 (English), could not get parts for it so I used a lot of perma gasket, bailing wire and whatever else was available. My second car was a '59 Borgward Isabella TS(German), built like a tank, knew where ever junked Borgward was with 50 miles. |
