It is a '45 K31. This rifle has a Hubert concepts trigger a St. Marie barrel damper ans a boyds stock. If I do my thing correctly, this rifle will put out
3/4 MOA all day long.

i guess i'm going to have to get me one of those new fangled factory sporting rifles. one of my current projects is going to need a little buddy.i've
been eyeballing those remington 799 mini-mausers in 22 hornet for a smaller version of the 303 rigby style mauser i'm building. of course as soon as i get
my grubby hands on that factory built sporting rifle i'm going to knock it in the head & gut it out. put a charger hump on top & a thumb cut in the
side, build new bottom metal & recontour the barrel in the rigby style.
then when they both are complete the rigby style 303 will look down at the little 22 hornet & say " i will call it mini me"

kevin, i have several good photos of the rigby 303's, both complete rifles & pictures of the magazines. i'm using siamese bottom metal with a p14
follower & a 1903 high hump turk receiver for the project. the siamese bottom metal is very similar to the botom metal used on the original 303 mausers.
both pac-nor & lothar walther have the correct .311 barrels. i'm still working out the barrel profile as most of the rigbys started out with a normal
sporter taper for about the first 3" then went into a banded rear sight base that is the same diameter as the barrel then stepped down to a smaller
diameter as it left the sight base.
for the mini-mauser i'll probably start out with a small ring in the bow release triggerguard then cut & weld it to the right shape.

LID,
Nice Swiss. Never had one of these yet but, I never say "never." What all have you done to it? DJ, any pix of the 303 Rigby? Interested in that one. The 1903 Turks are my favorite actions. I have just about got a 243 finished on one. I have a std 6.5x55 project in very early stages, and another that will be done in a 6x57 or 7x57. We are doing a 1903 in 8mm for one of my son's cousins. He wants the 8. It is based on a trad sporter. I had him sanding, steele wooling and working to fill the grain yesterday. Several hours worth. His brother is working on a 7x57 AI. out here. Several hours worth on that one also. When the 1903's became available I bought 5 or 6 and just kind of put them back. I did a couple of 8's right off the bat but, these barrels were pulled several years ago. I'll post some pix of the 7x57 on the 93 action soon. I have the stock roughed out. Can only do so much before I have to stop and come in. I can't work in the shop like I used to and it's fun to watch and help others. Got to keep the younger ones interested. Mike |

mike, here are some pictures of a rigby 303
.mauser built them on intermediate length actions with a special angled bottom metal to feed the rimmed cartridge. most of them were built & sold to rigby
but mauser kept a few of them to for their self. i'm using siamese bottom metal since it's very similar to what was used on the rigby's, i just
have to hinge it & rework the back of the floorplate into a straddle type.

Jim, I just finished a siamese guard.
The guy didn't want to spend the extra bucks on a straddle plate, but I layed one out using a pme plate anyway and the spring pocket is pefect. As you can see you'd have lots of room for any size straddle you want.
FYI, you have to lay out the hinge a little longer because of the curve to the front of the mag box. -Don |

DJ, tanks for the link. I do like those pre war sporters. The German are my favorites with the English running 2nd. Would be happy with either in orig
condition.
I did a stepped barrel sort of like the Rigby pictured. I could never find a rear site like I wanted though. The pre war stocks are works of art to me. I do plan on re-stocking several of my synthetic rifles into wood. The reason I have used the synthetic on some is because I like wood to much to bang it up. Where I hunt there are tons of rocks with a lot of little sharp ones. If you lay your rifle down it will get dings, cuts and scratches. Changing my mind though. Dings will just add character. Don, nice work. Very clean. What is the rifle that it is on? Mike |

Mike, thanks. It's a customer's 45/70 he's having me put a new bolt handle on. Along with hinging the floorplate and installing a 3 position
safety. The safety's been the real challange with the siamese firing pin being at 90deg to a standard mauser. I had to make a new pin to fit the gentry
shroud. It should look nice when it's done, that's just a pattern stock the stockmaker is in the process of making.

mike, necg sells a banded rear sight base but its a little to short for what i want.
don that siamese floorplate looks good & i'll look into getting a pme to use on the straddle conversion. the siamese floorplates already have a little bit of straddle going on but they still need about .100 more to look right

Don, I knew the firing pin was different. Fitting a 3-po to the Simy sounds good. What do you make the firing pins out. Only thing I have done is to shorten
them. Again, nice job on the late. What kind of stock is going on it.
I had a chance to buy a Siamese several years ago, But I was hunting everything with a muzzle loader at that time. I used one for two to three years just for the heck of it. Spent ten years shooting archery tournaments and just used the bow for deer hunting for about 5 years. Just because I could I guess. Still got deer and all was right with the world. Did use a rifle at times but, I usually had two deer by early October with the bow so only had one or two tags left and tried to stretch them out. I do wish I had the 45-70 now. DJ, wish I had left that barrel alone but, I ended up taking it down. I have since seen the sights that are available and would have been nice. Oh well, time for another.............M |

Mike, I'm not doing the stock work and don't know what he decided on. As for the pin, I made one out of an intermediate 98 pin with the same technique
I use to make geha pins. An intermediate is the same from the cams back, but the front is longer. I just cut off the end, cut a truing recess, made a new tip,
welded it on, then contoured it. I set the protrusion the other night, all I have left is to polish it and then reharden it.

Don,
Very nice work on the pin. I've never done that yet. We did start some bolt handles yesterday though. Finishing depends on how I feel. Mike |

In a moment of weakness, I subed to Shooting Times again I should have just pulled out some back issues and looked at them again........................ Anyway, I just got my new issue, and in the rag someone asked if their Mosin Nagant would be good for hunting deer and wild hogs. The answer from the Vintage Arms Editor ( wonder why they have one of those anyway? ) was as follows. And I quote: "Military rifles were not designed for hunting, and I always recommend the purchase of a sporting rifle built specifically for that purpose." Oh........................gee.................I have been mis-led all these years..................thank you sir for enlightening me. " Sounds logical to me........They do get paid by their advertisers who make "Sporting Rifles". I am suprised that he didn't say:........"and I always recommend the purchase of a rifle advertised in this magazine." |

Those mags are such a waste, unless you are into spending big bucks, or playing with wildcats and new ideas. There is occassionally some useful info for the
experimenters.
