The only ammo I could find was some of the Wolf Gold. It was the 139gr Soft Point Boat Tail sold at Cabela's. At almost $20.00 per box I will be loading some of my own very soon. I shot fairly well, considering I don't shoot rifle, or open sights much. The shallow rear notch still makes me think my 50 year old eyes can't, but the target doesn't lie. I did have a stringing problem on the second target. All rounds fired were from a bench off sandbags, and the stringing may very well have been from the bags. The first target with the good group showed me what it can do. The target itself isn't very good for iron sights. It is in shades of gray, and a nice black bullseye would probably help a lot. The first target had a nice tight group, then it started stringing a bit. The second target started out with a vertical string, then started stringing horizontally. I was having to mess with the sandbags between every shot, and having to hold the bag when I fired, so they probably are the culprit. Here are pics of the 2 targets. All were at 100 yards. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a shoulder pad. The Swede may be mild compared to 30-06 or 338, but with that steel buttplate, it's still a kicker and will tenderize your shoulder. Secondly, dump the Wolf. Been there dun that, they are the pits. Until you can get set up reloading, get some Sellier & Bellot in the 129 grain. They seem to do best in the Swedes. Now here's what I see in your targets. The first target looks like sights were off to the left. But the second targets suggests not. I think you were pushing the against the sandbags and jerking. The second target does not necessarily show stringing, just a much more scattered pattern than the first one. Yes, part of it may be the "gray" targets. I like a bold black dot to sight on. But the real problem between the first and second target is your shoulder was probably getting tender, whether you were realizing it or not. That plus the hassle you wre having with the sandbags. You shouldn't have to hold the sandbags when firing. Concerning the sights, Don't tell Hawk or Wes I said this, but the Swiss sights beat the snot out of those shallow notch sights on the Swede. If the 96 had the same sights as the K31, I believe it would beat it hands down. All in all, I think you had a pretty good day at the range. Is this your first Swede? I looked for S&B ammo and found none. I will keep looking. I have everything but time to load for it. I really have to get after it. About the sights. I forgot to mention that I frifted the front sight over between targets. The first was high-left. The second was centered left-right but still high. The hitting high isn't a problem as I use a 6 o'clock hold, and the 300 yard setting is perfect at 100 yards for that. I agree the K31 sights are better, but I think the M39 Finn sights are better than those. Okay, you drifted the front sight. That rifle might be a candidate for Mojo Sights, but I bet Paul will say they are illegal for milsurp competition. In reading here and the post in the basement, I think the sandbags seem to be your biggest problem. Are they homemade bags? I know I've tried bags made with blue jean legs. Not the best. I see you're getting the ice storm that is moving in here tonight and tomorrow. Strange that it could hit us both at same time as we are several hundred miles apart. Anyway, when the storm passes by (sounds like a song, doesn't it), we'll be expecting another range report and anticipate it being better. Our club has a lot of them, and they are assembled by volunteers when they have the time. They are pretty good, but I may have not used them properly. Before I try to remove any copper fouling I want to try the sandbags again- but steadier. I also really want to use a target with a black bullseye. The club target is just not clear enough. I also need to bring my M38 to see how it compares to the M96. Then compare the best of the 2 K31s I have to determine what to use next month. I love having to make decisions like that. When I read your reply above you said to dump the Wolf. I have never, and will never, use the old steel cased Wolf ammo, but this was Wolf Gold. It is made by Privi-Partizan, is brass cased- not the cheap steel cased ammo. It also looks like it may be what we have around here. Why didn't I buy a couple of cases of the Swede surplus when it was available? I really need to load some ammo. If some of ya'll would come over and do my honey-dos, maybe my wife will let me have some time. So you gotta do your own honeydews if you wanna keep your benefit package. Most gunstores will order the S&B for you if you ask. When I had 8mm, I would ask, and they could get it for me in just a couple of days and fair price. Still got 3 boxes, but no 98's anymore. Here is what I show as in stock and available at my distributors right now. I am working on getting an S&B dealer account set up, with them so I can keep theirs on hand too. Privi I can sell in 2 loads the 139FMJ and 139SP, both are 13.50 a box, let me know if this helps or not. I am also working with Privi to see if I can sell direct instead of through a distributor, for both loaded ammo and components. If this pans out I will let you know. I think if it goes, with them it will be a great thing. I like their brass, its good stuff and the loaded ammo is pretty good too. Just as a side note I will be loading up some ammo in some S&B brass I have here, and will see how it works. I am going to load some RL 17 in it under some Berger VLD bullets, should get me some good velocity and low pressure. I am having this load tested by HSM too and it looks like standard pressures and velocity at about 2700-2800fps, much the same as RL22 but lower pressures than RL 22.

I have my FFL for the gunsmithing end of it, I do sell some rifles and such, but mostly only the ones I build and repair. I will do transfers and the like, but as I said most are just complete builds and build ups on others actions. I do sell a fair amount of ammo to Police Depts and individual officers. I can arrange a group buy type thing and see what the best prices I can get are. I will be putting some Privi that I get from distributors as of now on my site, see the specials forum for the site info. I will extend the discount to the Privi ammo as well. I will be adding the Privi line to the site soon, so just call and I will get you a quote for box and case prices etc. I will put my initial post over in the ammo thread for 6.5X55 too. Let us know how the RL 17 works out for accuracy as my experience has been the slower powders give better accuracy. Long live the Swedish Mauser!!

I will have more info on getting the Privi brass and component bullets on Monday. I did get the email from him with prices on the ammo yesterday before I went to the Safari Club Banquet. Here are the prices I can sell for in the Privi Line in Swede ammo: The 139 FMJ is 13.50 per box the 139 SP is also the 13.50 per box. I will be speaking with them on Monday as I said, and see what bulk order discounts I can get. The privi brass is good stuff. The minimum order is one case, so if you guys want to go together, and split a case, we can work that out as I can break it down and ship to individuals from here. A case is 25 boxed of 20 for a 500 round total. They also have 7mm and 8mm mauser and Argie ammo too. The 7mm is same price as swede, the Argie and 8mm are a buck more a box. Argie comes in 174 FMJ and 180 SP, the 8mm is 196gr SP.
