8x56R ammo for Steyr M95 |
Lead | |
|
Will the Nazi 8x56 ammo for sale at SOG work in the Steryr M95? Is the 8x56R the same as the 8x56 ammo I see for sale, or does the "R" make a big difference?

All the 8 X 56 ammo should be the same, and work in guns chambered for 8 X 56. I am not sure about the 'R' designation.
Long live the Swedish Mauser!!

8x56 cartridges. | ||

Hi all, as I see it the 8x56 ammo that is advertised in the S.O.G. link above is the right stuff for the M95 Mannlicher,and as far as I know the R. stands for rimmed,but there are other 8x56 cartridges around that arnt suitable,eg. 8x56R Kropatschek which is also rimmed and looks simmiler but would be very hard to find any[in oz anyway],there is also the 8x56mm Mannlicher-Schoenauer which is a rimmles case and only used in sporting rifles as far as I know. By the way the price S.O.G. has seems very cheap compared to the 8-10 dollars a packet I see it selling for in Australia,thats if you can still find any. thanks Martin.

Yes it will work ,I ordered some for mine.How ever , order the tin of ammo not the single boxes. The ammo in the tin looks like the day it was packed.I ordered just some boxes and those looked like they dug them up from behind the barn.

I just bought the Mosin I've been after,and I saw this other rifle laying next to it.The dealer told me it was a steyr, and I was also told that it is a good rifle to own.Apparantly it dates back to the turn of the century, but came to prominence during pre war Germany.The Mosin is a throw back to Nam,where I first saw them.So now I have my War souvenir 41 years later..But I will keep the Steyr and I'll fire it from time to time.One of the things I like about the Steyr is it is small like a carbine,it's light, and I hear does not have a heavy kick.Talk about heavy kicks I fired this Sharps last week.@#%$ thing sat me right on my @#%$.Also The steyr like the Mosin and many 30 calibers can be swabbed out with one same cleaning rod. someone is pulling your leg--your Steyr carbine will recoil heavily and painfully. slip-on recoil pad is a must with these.

Or a Past Magnum Recoil Shield which is my choice.
A friend watching me shoot mine stated that my shoulder moved back about 3 inches each shot. NRA LIFE MEMBER

Shooting an M95 carbine in 8x56R will detach your retinas.
Also might eliminate the need to go to the chiropractor for a spine manipulation. Let your best buddy shoot it from a bench rest. Shooting it standing seems to help. Dang few bench rests handy in the field anyway. Good luck with your new little one. Boomber |

Boomber, you have GOT to get a recoil pad. I have very little pride remaining (being married), so the recoil pad is perfect for me. I can put 200 rounds
downrange in three hours if I just have a recoil pad. Otherwise I'll have a blue shoulder.

recoil in the M-95 | ||
|
There's a reason that I shoot lead bullets in my M-95's To save a little money and to keep the thing from killing me. Those things KICK. with a lead
bullet at about 1,500 FPS it kicks like a .22. with the good german factory ammo it kicks like a Winchester .458 mag.
Also with factory ammo the sights are set for either 200 yards or 300 yards. at fifty yards it shoots about 18" high.(and no, I'm not kidding, I measured from the point of aim to the point of impact. Pat |

I'm pretty sure the point of impact varies from gun to gun. I had the same issue with my first Mosin-Nagant, but it turned out that with other
Mosin-Nagants (I have 17 of them now) the rounds hit mostly where I wanted them to hit. Two months ago the M95s were on sale for $30 each from Century, and I
bought eight of them. I noticed that some have tall front sights and others don't. It seems to make a difference in the points of impact.
