Anyway, I ordered a few more from Classicarms.com and plan to dress them up as well. They always have enough wear on the finish that I find it worthwhile to strip the original paint and dress them up. These in the pictures were done with Birchwood-Casey cold blue. It was quite painless overall and I think adds an aesthetic value to the gun.

Generally a lot of wear on the finish and some grips have seen better days but I have spare grips from replacing some with Marschal wood grips.



These were fairly good. I went to my gun club tonight and they all checkout fine. I had the place all to myself.

On preps for my project is quite easy. You can get the Birchwood-Casey blue kit and follow the instructions.

I first start off taking off the slide and remove the spring and grips (that's all - sometimes I remove the trigger assembly for access with a brush but not necessary).

I just get a small pint can of "Zip Strip" paint remover. Set the parts in a flat pan (cookie sheet) and pour Zip-Strip over it enough to spread around and cover the surfaces (definitely use rubber gloves). Let it set a few minutes while the paint bubbles up. Then take a stiff fiber brush and scrub off the paint getting into all the nooks and cranies (repeat if necessary).

Next, wash off under cold tap water and then dry off with paper towels and let dry. Next clean using degreaser wash and dry. Then clean again using "blue and rust remover".

Next, swab on "Blue" and work in using 0000 fine steel wool for 45 to 60 seconds and then rinse off using tap water. Keep repeating the process of swabbing blue and working it in with 0000 fine steel wool (I usually go 5 or 6 coats or more). When done, dry off and set on a towel or in a low heat source long enough to drive off excess water around exterior of the barrel and other exposed metal parts (to minimize surface rust).

When dry, let sit out overnight to cure. After a few hours, reassemble and it should look good as new. I added custom grips on some and super-glued some "Nitesiters" though I think that there are some tritium sights available that will fit.

Anyway, I bid on German Makarovs but the prices are bid to insane levels now. It must be the approach of the "Obamalypse" that has heightened tensions and resulted in crazy prices. The CZ-82 still represents a screaming value in my opinion. So I keep buying as long as they are around at these prices.

It helps that the import marks are stamped on the underside of the slide (seen above bottom photo). These holsters are fairly decent as well.
