Hawk, actually it was walnut-nicely re-finished. Rob helped me identify it as such. So strike I44 beech and substitute I44 walnut. That makes two now...a nice 1942 walnut followed me home today :-)

Re: Electro-Penciled Bolt SN Info Requested ~ Please Read | ||
![]() This was one of the reasons for replacement of the bolt sleeve. The extension of the bolt cam follower rod broke and that caused damage to the bolt sleeve head as the bolt was not fully into battery when fired. A reason for this may be repeatedly attempting to fire the rifle with a not proper closed bolt, this could cause the bolt cam follower rod extension to break off and when that happens the rifle might fire before the bolt is fully into battery. One of the signs that the bolt cam follower extension is getting weaker is that it is getting harder to open and close the bolt, if so take a close look at the extension first. Add to the above the facts that during the war years (for Europe 1939-1945) a total number of 280.950 K31's were made - being almost half of the total production amount made between 1933 and 1958 - and you've got your answer on why most electro-penciled bolt sleeves happen to be with war time K31's. Thanks, Guisan. |
