This is the official French thought on weapons ... If a modification took place, who cares, the designation is what does the weapon resemble now. Example: A Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.1892 has been upgraded with the following changes, a 5-round magazine has been added, the cleaning rod removed and a woodfiller has been inletted in the stock, a stacking hook has been added to the forend band, and a handguard added ... The Official Designation would be a Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.M16 ... that is all. Unofficially collectors call this a Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.1892/16/27 due to the different changes that took place in the different years.

Your list is wonderful for a collectors list but the Official French Designation only has these as a list ...

If you notice i like the collectors designations as it does tell you the changes made to the weapon and gives you a pretty good idea to the history of the weapon but this is unofficial French military language. The French were strange when it came to their weapons that is why i want to write a book on Lebels and Berthiers so that fellow French collectors and others will understand them better. I also have many of these different examples in my collection and i hope to achieve the complete list.
Collecting French weapons is fun and challenging, is it not ?

There is no such weapon called a Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.1902 with a marking on the left side of the receiver marked "1902". What you are refering to is a Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.1892 that was re-built with a curved stacking hook. I sent this list to a friend of mine in France, getting a reply back late last night and he stated that there is no such weapon ever bieng used by the Chasseurs Alpines. What they used were Fusil d'Infanterie Mle.1886/M93 dit "Lebel" and Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.1892's. The curved stacking hook was sometimes used on the modified weapon and that was done the 1927 Transforme Program not during WW1. There is only one weapon that was ever marked Mle.1902 and those would be the Fusil de Tirailleur Indochinois Mle.1902.

There is no such thing as a Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.1892 M.16, there were just called Mousqueton d'Artillerie Mle.M.16, just as the they were called Fusil d'Infanterie Mle.M.16. Look at the receiver markings on true M.16 pieces, they just say Mle.M.16 nothing else.
As i have stated before the Official French Designations are what i have listed, anything else is a variation of the norm.
The French are notorious for re-building or modifying weapons with extra or spare parts. If a part was damaged in any way they just took another part available and made it work.

Then explain why to me do Carbines and Rifles that were made after the adoption of the 5-round modification have on the receiver Mle.M.16 ? (Modle Modifie 1916).
I have an official French Manual that was published by the Ministre De La Guerre dated 1918 that has all the listing of the various Berthier Firearms, componets, breakdowns, cleaning ammunition, etc. concerning these weapons in use during that time and the name of the weapon is called either a Mousqueton or Fusil d'_______ Mle.M.16. They also explain the differences between the Modifie and Transforme.

Now that is a interesting vive la colo, one of manuals Direction de L'Infanterie: Instruction du 27 Mars 1918 Sur Les Mousquetons Mod. 1892 et Mod.M.1916 et Sur Les Carabines Mod.1890 ... Chapitre II ... Mousqueton Mle.M.1916 ... Le Mousqueton Mle.M.16 utilise un chargeur 5 cartouches (1), et diffre du Mousqueton Mle.1892 sur les points suivants: ... (1) Il pent utiliser, sans inconvnients, le chargeur 3 cartouches du Mousqueton Mle.1892.
