It would be a great exercise to list all the French Berthiers that were used in WWI. Here is a list of Berthiers with changes and years they were made:
1. Carabine de Cavalerie Mle.1890 1st type (swival on bottom of stock & no bayo)
2. Carabine de Cuirassiers Mle.1890 1st type (no bayo)
3. Carabine de Gendarmerie Mle.1890
4. Mousqueton d' Artillerie Mle.1892
5. Carabine de Cavalerie Mle.1890 2nd type (swival on side of stock & no bayo)
6. Mousqueton d' Artillerie Mle.1902 (alpines troops-stacking hook curves up)
7. Fusil de Tirailleur Indochinois Mle.1902
8. Fusil de Tirailleur Senegalais "Colonial" Mle.1907
9. Mousqueton de Cuirassiers Mle.1892/14 2nd type (1892 stock-leather butt plate)
10.Fusil d'Infanterie Mle 1907/15 1st type (bent bolt)
11.Fusil d'Infanterie Mle 1907/15 2nd type (straight bolt)
12.Carabine de Cavalerie Mle.1890/15 3rd type (swival on the side w bayo)
13.Carabine de Cuirassiers Mle.1890/15 3rd type (bayo added)
14.Fusil Mle 1907/15/16 (5 rds & topwood)
15.Fusil Mle 1916 (5 rds & topwood)
16.Mousqueton Mle 1892/16 (5 rds & topwood)
17.Mousqueton Mle 1916 (5 rds & topwood)
18.Fusil de Tirailleur Indochinois Mle.1902/16 (5 rds & topwood)
Question--all of these Berthiers w changes were used in WWI; because there are examples of them all. I have 10 of them in my collection and have seen 4 others not in my collection. OR am I stretching a point with all of these changes? THOUGHTS?
