the feeding problem might be solved by making or adapting an inner magwell that attatches to either the floorplate or to the bottom metal. i'm working on a
couple of ideas for a 22 hornet springfield & a 22 hornet mauser. the springfield will be easy because i have the inner magwell, spring & follower from
a sedgley, i'm missing a couple of small parts for it but they will be easy to make. for the mauser i'm going to try fitting inner magwell simliar to
what was done on...

Another big problem with the 223 conversion is getting it to feed. The 223 is way smaller than the feed rails can hold. I rigged up a Ruger mini-14 magazine
to work. The mag has the feed rails built in. I'm still working on the project. I am trying to rig up a latch for the magizine. I got one of the
extended extractors but couldn't make it work. I ended up extending the lip on a mil surp extractor. Works fine, but it is a LOT of work.

the 22-250 will eat a barrel up, 17 will be eaten faster.
cost would be ok but barrel live would be very short. in the end its just not worth it anyhow. the bullet while extremely fast would loose its speed very
quickly due to its light wheight.
if you were looking for a 17 centerfire go with the 17 rem. cases are easy to find and barrel life will not suffer.

Thank jim for the info I'll check in to it.Maybe give it a try if I can get my hands on a m48 or shorter action I do have soft spot for the 17s. I saw a
17-250 mauser barrel on GB but that would probly be costly to shoot.

arky, the boltface & the extractor will need to be modified to work with a .223 case head.
there are several ways to do it.
the easiest way is to solder a bushing to the boltface & extend the tip of the extractor by tig welding then shape it to grab the .223case.

you can also have the bolt face welded up the recut for a .223. do a search for odies dad, he has one that was welded up & recut.\

you can also cut the bolt face flat then recut it for a .223...
