On December 12 from 12:30 till Sunset the Haltom City Rifle and Pistol Club will be hosting another CMP Combined Match.
John C. Garand - open to M-1 Garands and M-1 Carbine
1903 Springfield - open to 1903 and 1903a3 Springfields
Vintage Rifle - open to any other U.S. or foreign bolt action or straight pull military rifle
In addition a special prize will be given to to shooter who has the highest score with a rifle that...

south houston big bore shoot

we had a big bore shoot today at bayou rifle range just south of houston.
here are a couple pic's from the most interesting table at the event.
from left to right is a 700AHR bolt action, 700nitro express double rifle, 2 bore muzzel loader, i think the next bolt rifle was a 700 overkill, 600 overkill bolt rifle, 4 bore double rifle, & three more .700 bolt rifles.

I ordered four spam cans of HXP ball from the CMP for our next Garand Match ($54 for 192 rounds) so tempting to open one and check it but I'll wait till the match.

NM MILSURPS "Guns of August" Shoot

New Mexico Military Surplus Rifles Pistols Shooters - NM-MILSURPS will once again host the "Guns of August" Shoot on August 23, 2009 at the Albuquerque Shooting Range Park. This shoot will be on the theme of rifles of the First World War (WWI). The ranges for this shoot will be 400 meters and 500 meters with a full man steel target at 500 meters and shoulder/head steel target at 400 meters.
Each shooter will shoot 10 rounds at these targets ... 5 at 400 and 5 at...

Guns of August Match

On August 8th The Haltom City Rifle & Pistol Club will be holding our first Guns of August match. At 12;30 we will have a M-1 Carbine match and when that is over around 2:30
we will have the Guns of August match open to rifles used in WWI. No Swiss or Swedes this time. The winner gets a copy of Barbara Tuchman's book and a DVD of All Quiet on the Western Front.

On 11 April The Haltom City Rifle and Pistol Club hosted a CMP Vintage Rifle/1903 Springfield/John C. Garand Match
two of our board members participated.
SW28fan (Yours Truly) managed a 247/300 with No4 Mk1 Enfields and Pepperbelly aka Jim Smith shot a 255/300 with a M96 Swede and left with a Bronze pin!
We both attempted to shoot in a second relay but had techinal difficulties; the zero on my 1903a3 shifted and Ill let Jim explain what happen to his rifle.

OK, I had a brain phart. The TSRA Convention was last weekend, not this coming weekend. The really bad part is, I MISSED IT. For some reason I had it stuck in my head that it was 03/14-15. Sorry.

Postal Match Time

I think it is time for a Postal match. 10 shots prone on the SR-1 Target at 100 yards. You got until March 1st.
Pick your Poison, Garand /Springfield/Vintage Rifle (non US as issued Bolt guns along with US Krags and M1917s). I want to see if you guys can shoot something off other than you mouths. You can PM me your score. My scores will be what I shoot during a regular match on Feb 14th.
If you need a source for SR-1 Target these folks will sell them in amounts as small as ten;...

The Board of my Club approved a rule change to allow M-1 Garands to be fired in our CMP Matches.

As it stands now the Haltom City Rifle and Pistol Club will be holding Six CMP Matches from 12:30-5:30 on the Secdond Saturdays of Feb, April, June, August, October and Decenber. Matches will be Combined Vintage rifle, 1903 Springfield and (maybe) John C. Garand.

My club held our final VintageRifle/1903 Springfield match of the Year and Paul here managed to come in third place in the vintage catagory using a Finnish M-39 for a score of 239/300

August North Texas C&R Match

On August 24 at 2 PM The Haltom City Rifle and Pistol Club will hold a Vintage Rifle &1903 Springfield Match. CMP rules cost is $6

The match is open to "as issued" US or Foreign Bolt Action or Straight Pull rifles. Sorry no scopes, sporters or special target varients. Competitors will need 35 rounds of ammo and one stripper clip. Shooting will be done prone and offhand.
