   The Military Vehicle Preservation Association&#39;s 2009 convoy honoring the 1919 military transcontinental use of Highway 30 - The Lincoln Highway is just
around the corner!
<br>
They will be driving from Mt. Airy, MD to Chambersburg on June 13th, from there to Bedford, PA the next day and plan to reach Greensburg, PA by JUne 15th. So
far most of the vehicles seem to be WWII to 1970s era types with a sprinkling of older machines.

   The holiday, first celebrated in the Mexican state of Puebla and the U.S. state of Texas commemorates the May 5th, 1862 victory of a mixed 4,000 man Mexican
force over a 6,000 man invading army of French Regulars. It is not Mexican Independance day, which is the 16th of September 1822 Independance from Spain. The
victory was celebrated early on in Texas because the vitorious General, Ignacio Zaragoza, the son of a Presidial Soldier was born near Goliad, Texas.... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ I was at the old home place this weekend and ran across some of my old scouting equipment. Scattered among the canteens, cups and covers were a 3 position
entrenching tool and a small mattock/pick axe. All are marked U.S. with makers&#39; names and dates. I bought these back in the 1950s when &quot;Army
Surplus&quot; stores had some great items from WWII.

They&#39;ve all been well used but still serviceable. The digging tools have very little of their original olive drab finishes... ]]></description>

Celcil Fayard Jr., leader of Son&#39;s of Confederate Veterans in Mississippi is not thrilled that a local university is getting one of the biggest collections
of U.S. Grant papers in the U.S.
<br>
The University of Mississippi is now home to 90 file cabinets containing hundreds of thousands of documents and memoribilia including the Grant family bible.
The items are owned by the nonprofit Ulysses S. Grant Association.

			<description><![CDATA[ Owning and also having the distinct pleasure of shooting quite a few WWI and WWII small arms and light machine guns at our local Outer Banks Gun Club range, at
on time or another there is always that special day.  Our president of the club and an 80+ year old WWII vet and senior officer, had a Civil War 1862 Maynard
rifle (with 50 cal hand loads ofcourse) and he let a few of us shoot it!  Definitely worth the price of admission.....$25 per year! ]]></description>

returned to military service, 145 years after a daring assault on Fort Wagner in South Carolina put it in the history books forever.

   I have heard that the (CCBF) Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation sold out to the local stone quarry. They allegedly withdrew their support of a coalition
against rezoning of about 630 acres of agricultural land which allowed local Pols to rezone the area and allow the strip mining. Some say they did it for eight
acres to add to their parking lot for reenactments. Any other info, comments on this issue out there? ]]></description>
